CUFOA executive officer and Dryden, Ontario, gunsmith Bruce Montague was arrested by the OPP this morning at 9 a.m. while attending a gun show in Dryden.

Bruce was purchasing a saddle for his 12-year-old daughter when an OPP constable informed him that he had an warrant for Bruce’s arrest. The OPP placed Bruce in custody, searched Bruce’s vehicle and then took him “down town” for lock-up.

Someone at the guns show called Bruce’s wife Donna and told her that Katie needed to be pick-up. When Donna arrived an the gun show, the OPP arrested Donna also.

The OPP questioned Donna for two hours and then released her, but warned her NOT to return to her home for two days as the OPP have a two-day warrant to search their house and yard.

Bruce is now in a Dryden jail cell. His bail hearing may be as early as Monday, but may not occur until Wednesday.

The OPP have charged both Donna and Bruce with “unauthorized possession of a firearm,” Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code.

Donna has to submit to finger printing on 16 October, and is to appear in court on 23 October. The OPP are playing hardball. These arrests this morning seemed to have been planned.

Bruce has been openly practicing his gun smiting trade for the past six months without a firearms license. While we can shoot skeet openly in Saskatchewan with unregistered firearms and NO firearms licenses, Bruce is arrested.

Jack Wilson & I are leaving this afternoon to see what we can do for Bruce on Monday morning.

Any of you with news media contacts, please forward this information to them.

Sincerely,

Eduardo
